The head of the Williams team, James Vowles, commented on the importance of the chassis condition in the Mexico City Grand Prix, indicating that if it is in good condition, everything flows correctly during the second free practice session (FP2). On the other hand, if the chassis suffers any damage, the situation becomes complicated.
During the practice session, George Russell from Mercedes set the fastest time with 1:17.998, followed by Carlos Sainz from Ferrari at 0.317 seconds and Yuki Tsunoda from Red Bull in third place. Max Verstappen from Red Bull was in fourth position, with Lando Norris out of the session. Meanwhile, Pato O'Ward from McLaren finished in thirteenth place.
Regarding other drivers, young Kimi Antonelli replaced Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes and placed twelfth. For Red Bull, Sergio Pérez took the tenth spot, and Williams driver Franco Colapinto was eleventh in the timing table.
The practice day was interrupted by a collision between Alex Albon from Williams and Oliver Bearman from Ferrari at turn 10. Albon lost control of his car at high speed and ended up crashing into Bearman's Ferrari, causing damage to the suspension of both vehicles. Fortunately, both drivers emerged unscathed from the accident, although Albon expressed his outrage over the radio, calling Bearman an "idiot."
After the incident, the stewards announced that they would conduct an investigation to clarify what happened during the practice session of the Mexico City Grand Prix.
